Hong Kong actor Sammo Hung has long been a trailblazer in Asia’s action scene, having worked alongside big names like Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen.

With four Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Action Choreography under his belt, Hung is regarded as a pivotal figure who helped shape the martial arts genre.

Over the past years, however, the 73-year-old has slowed down in acting due to restricted mobility.

His well-being recently drew attention on social media after photos of him grocery shopping in a motorised wheelchair began circulating.

Several pictures captured Hung buying vegetables at a wet market in Hong Kong’s Sheung Shui district, while others showed him placing an order at a pork stall.

Notably, the stunt choreographer was unaccompanied during this outing.

The photos sparked a wave of online reactions, with many netizens sharing their own chance encounters with Hung.

Some also pointed out that the actor enjoys grocery shopping on his own, praising his independent spirit despite health challenges.

In fact, Hung himself has also mentioned on several occasions that going to the market on his own is a form of entertainment for him.

“I used to bump into him all the time while grocery shopping in Sheung Shui. We would take pictures together. He especially loves roast meat,” said one netizen.

Another added: “I once met him while buying beef rolls in Shenzen’s Costco. ”

Hung underwent a knee operation in 2017 and has since been using a wheelchair and walking stick to move around.

However, his health has gradually improved thanks to the dedicated care of his wife, former actress Joyce Godenzi, who closely monitors his diet.

“My wife doesn’t allow me to eat much. I can eat fatty food but have to give up starch,” he shared in a past interview.
