Japanese actors Kento Yamazaki and Suzu Hirose, who dated for almost three years, have reportedly broken up.

According to Japan’s Josei Seven magazine, which first reported the news on March 24, the couple were close to marriage before the split.

Yamazaki, 30, and Hirose, 26, starred together in the music romance film Your Lie In April (2016).

They were first linked romantically in July 2022 after Yamazaki was spotted by magazine Shukan Bunshun visiting Hirose’s apartment frequently. He also accompanied her to her family gatherings.

The couple were spotted in early 2024 wearing rings on their right ring fingers while going out for ramen together with a group of acquaintances, according to sources quoted by Josei Seven. This led to rumours of an engagement.

Yamazaki’s star has been rising in recent years, as he scored leading roles in shows such as the hit survival thriller Alice In Borderland (2020 to present) and the historical action film series Kingdom (2019 to 2024).

Meanwhile, Hirose recently starred in two 2025 Netflix shows – the family drama Asura and the mystery series Who Saw The Peacock Dance In The Jungle?.

Sources told Josei Seven that the couple’s relationship took a turn in late 2024, when Yamazaki was away from Tokyo for a long time due to filming commitments.

Hirose also focused on her work. She was offered an acting role, but was unable to consult Yamazaki about it in person.

There was speculation that being apart for extended periods led the actress to reconsider her future with Yamazaki. They had a thorough discussion and decided to go their separate ways in early 2025.

Both sides have so far not reacted to reports of their split. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
