Chinese actress Vicki Zhao is back on social media for the first time in more than two months.
The star, who is turning 49 on March 12, posted a photo of the moon on Chinese social media platform Weibo at close to midnight on March 8.
“The moon tonight... The moon at that time,” she wrote in Chinese, referencing the song The Moon At That Time (1999) by her good friend, Mandopop singer Faye Wong.
Several fans commented on Zhao’s post, and she responded to some of their earlier comments.
She wrote “jiayou” – an expression of encouragement in Mandarin – to two fans who said they would be taking the “gaokao”, the university entrance examination, in June.
She also wrote “Happy birthday” to a fan who said she was celebrating her birthday on March 8.
Zhao’s latest post on Weibo was her first on the platform since she announced on Dec 28 that she had divorced her businessman husband Huang Youlong many years ago.
The actress, who rose to fame in the period drama My Fair Princess (1998), was blacklisted by the Chinese authorities since August 2021 for undisclosed reasons. Her Internet presence in China was scrubbed earlier, but her Weibo account has been back online since March 2024.
She was also absent from the latest season of Chinese acting reality series Everybody Stand By 3. She was a mentor to young actors in the first two seasons in 2019 and 2020.
Zhao has likely been living in Yunnan the last few months. Her IP location on Weibo showed that she was in the Chinese province.
There had been speculation in November 2024 that she was in Yunnan, after she shared on Instagram a photo of a spinning top, a popular traditional game in the province. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
