Even the immigration officials could not tell apart the members of Singaporean pop duo By2.

The China-based Mandopop group – twin sisters Miko and Yumi, both 32 – recently returned to Beijing after spending Chinese New Year in Dubai.

They wrote on Chinese social media platform Weibo on Feb 12 that they were stopped by officials at Beijing airport after clearing customs.

“We have been waiting here for more than an hour,” Miko began in the 30-second video. “They could not tell us apart as we are twins.”

The singer said the officials mistook her and her sister for the same person as they cleared the checkpoints separately.

“They thought that the same person entered the country twice, resulting in duplicate records, and now they have to separate the records,” she said.

Yumi added: “They asked me if I had another passport without realising I have a twin.”

The siblings said in an accompanying post that they were held up at the airport for two hours.

Several netizens commented on By2’s post, with one saying that the facial recognition system failed in this instance to recognise the twins.

Another netizen suggested that they clear immigration together in the future, so they can explain that they are twins. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
