One can find happiness in simplicity. That seems to be the message conveyed by Hong Kong actress Carina Lau, who turned 59 on Dec 8.

She posted on Instagram on Dec 9 a photo of herself with her actor-husband Tony Leung Chiu Wai, 62. There was a cake in the shape of a bolo bun in front of them.

“Simple, happy,” she wrote in Chinese.

Lau is rehearsing for The Truth About Lying, her first theatrical collaboration with Hong Kong actor Dayo Wong. The play about love, marriage and divorce will kick off its 58-show run at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) on Dec 13.

The crew and cast members of The Truth About Lying did not forget Lau’s birthday, as she posted on Instagram on Dec 7 a photo of their celebration for her. She was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a painting of her two pet dogs, with two cakes on a table.

Hong Kong actress Harriet Yeung, one of the cast members of the play, also uploaded the photo on her social media accounts on Dec 8.

“Dear sister Carina, wishing you a happy birthday, health and beauty,” she wrote in Chinese. “See you all at opening night on Friday.”

On Dec 5, Lau was with Leung at HKAPA, where he was conferred an honorary doctorate alongside other recipients such as Hong Kong actor Sammo Hung and director Ann Hui.

The honorary doctorate was Leung’s second in two weeks. He was awarded one by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on Nov 23. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
