A pair of screen icons had a good time scarfing down durian while in town for the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), which is running till Dec 8.
Veteran Taiwanese actress Yang Kuei-mei, 65, was recently named Best Supporting Actress at Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards. She enjoyed the “King of Fruits” alongside Taiwanese actor Lee Kang-sheng, 56.
Yang, who won for family drama Yen And Ai-Lee – part of SGIFF’s line-up – posted a photo of herself and Lee on Facebook on Dec 1. They were enjoying premium Mao Shan Wang at Ah Di Dempsey Durian in Dempsey Road.
Both Yang and Lee received the Screen Icon Award by the festival. Lee received his award during the festival’s opening ceremony at Capitol Theatre on Nov 28, while Yang received hers at the National Museum of Singapore during the premiere of Yen And Ai-Lee on Dec 1.
Lee is the lead of Singaporean filmmaker Yeo Siew Hua’s Stranger Eyes, which opened the festival. The movie is the first local film to be selected for the main competition at the prestigious Venice Film Festival.
Yang, who is in the Netflix drama Born For The Spotlight (2024), also posted two solo shots. In one, she is holding the thorny fruit in front of the Ah Di Dempsey Durian sign. In another, she is eating it with gloves on.
She wrote: “No matter how busy I am, I have to make time for durian.”
The pair, who co-starred in Malaysian auteur Tsai Ming-liang’s 1994 classic Vive L’Amour, held a dialogue session about their acting journeys on Nov 30.
Vive L’Amour was screened as part of SGIFF on Dec 1. There is one more screening at Oldham Theatre at the National Archives of Singapore on Dec 3 at 2pm.
Lee also shared what he has been up to in Singapore on Instagram. The actor can be seen making a heart shape with foam floats while in the Swissotel The Stamford swimming pool. He also posed in his bathrobe with the iconic Marina Bay Sands in the background.
