Hong Kong actor Matthew Ko is officially a husband and soon-to-be father.

The 40-year-old announced today (Dec 2) that he has registered his marriage to his non-celebrity girlfriend, who’s 10 years younger, in Canada. They are expecting a baby girl, due next month.

In an interview with Hong Kong media, Ko reflected on the past decade, during which he lived abroad and explored various career opportunities.

The former Mr Hong Kong winner added that starting a family has always been part of his plan, and he’s elated to see his dream come true.

“I’ve always wanted to have a family of my own, and when fate arrived, I proposed, registered and now we’re having a child. Everything went smoothly,” he said.

Ko described the arrival of their daughter as “a gift from heaven”.

Reflecting on the journey he and his wife have shared, the former TVB star said: “I proposed to her in Hong Kong, we took our wedding photos in the Maldives and later registered our marriage in Canada.”

Ko also took to Instagram to share his joy, adding that he will do whatever it takes to protect his family.

“The sacrifices women make are never easy... I will continue striving to be a strong father, husband, son and a good actor,” he said.

The Forensic Heroes II (2008) star also mentioned that he has already chosen a name for his daughter, Liona – inspired by the strength of a lion.

Ko signed a contract with TVB in 2005 after emerging as the victor in the Mr Hong Kong male beauty contest and remained with the broadcaster until his contract expired in 2014.

Among the shows he has worked on include Steps (2007), Beauty Knows No Pain (2010), Links To Temptation (2010 to 2011) and many more.
