Taiwanese singers Annie Yi and Harlem Yu shocked the entertainment scene back in 2009 after announcing the end of their nine-year marriage.

Now, 15 years later, Yi and Yu's son Harrison is ready to speak about the divorce, sharing that it was a blessing in disguise.

In a recent appearance on a Chinese variety show, Harrison revealed that he was constantly shuttling between two places after his parents' divorce.

"I was the busiest. I'd stay with my dad on the weekdays and with my mum on the weekends," the 22-year-old said.

Despite the inconvenience, Harrison said that he was satisfied with his upbringing as his parents had different methods of teaching.

He added that Yi, 56, is open-minded and would support his artistic pursuits whereas Yu, 63, would teach him manners and how to be a good person.

"I think they both did their best as parents ... they both left a lasting impact on me.

"If I only followed one side, I'd miss something. Their divorce is not a bad thing," he said.

In a 2022 interview, Yi revealed that she split from Yu as she couldn't overcome a past trauma, which led her to lash out at those around her.

"I didn't prepare myself well and felt tense the entire time," she said, adding that entering the entertainment scene at just 18 had a lasting impact on her mental health.

The singer shared that after meeting Yu, she believed he could solve all her problems. She only realised years later that her mindset was flawed, and the pair ultimately divorced.

Yi later married Chinese actor Qin Hao in 2015, while Yu tied the knot with television host Jinny Chang in 2016.
