Reflecting on the difficult journey of becoming an artiste, singer Datuk Awie shared that during his early days as a performer, he faced several challenges, including being evicted from his rental home.

But the 55-year-old icon is grateful for these experiences, as they were valuable life lessons.

He also acknowledged that his current success is a result of his parents' prayers.

"I once lived under a building for three months. People don’t know how hard it was for me to become an artiste

"I was even harassed to the point that things were thrown at my car.

"I survived on rice with sardine curry only, no fish whatsoever, for several months.

"I had to live in a small room with eight other people ... there was no space to lie down even," he said, adding that he's gotten paid just RM5 for a performance.

"It was a tough journey," Awie admitted to mStar, The Star's Malay-language portal.
