Trial for Aliff Aziz and Ruhainies khalwat case postponed to next year, both seen making quick exits after proceedings

The court has postponed the trial for the khalwat (close proximity) case involving singer Aliff Aziz, 33, and actress Ruhainies 32, to Feb 20 and 27 next year.

The decision was approved by Syariah Judge Abu Suffian Abu Yaziz at the Syariah High Court of the Federal Territories, Kuala Lumpur, on Thursday (Oct 17).

Additionally, both defendants, Aliff and Ruhainies, have had their bail extended until the next trial date.

During the proceedings, the court also allowed Aliff to replace his previous bail guarantor.

This came after his former guarantor, Muhammad Nur Aiman Zainul Ilyas, withdrew and was replaced by Furqan Abdul Rahim.

Both stars were represented by lawyers Hadi Salleh and Amirul Ashraf Ghani.

On July 3, Aliff and Ruhainies pleaded not guilty and requested a trial regarding the khalwat case that occurred on March 9, when the charges were read out.

They were charged under Section 27(a) of the Syariah Criminal Offenses Act (Federal Territories) 1997 and Section 27(b) of the same act, which carries a maximum fine of RM3,000 or imprisonment of no more than two years, or both if convicted.

On March 9, the media reported that Ruhainies and Aliff were caught in khalwat after allegedly being together at a luxury condominium in Kuala Lumpur.

As a result of the case, Aliff and his ex-wife, Bella Astillah, who were married on Sept 9, 2016, divorced with a single talak on June 13. They have two small children.

After the court proceedings both Aliff and Ruhainies refused to give any comments to the reporters who were waiting for the proceedings to conclude.

The Terjerat co-stars completely ignored all the questions and hurriedly left the court. They left in separate vehicles.
