Lenny Kravitz is opening up about his love life and why he’s still committed to remaining celibate until the right woman comes along.

“It’s a spiritual thing,” the New York-born rock superstar said in an interview with The Guardian published Thursday.

Kravitz, who turned 60 recently, exploded into the global music scene more than 30 years ago with the release of his debut album, Let Love Rule, in 1989.

Since then, the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist musician has embraced his long-running status as a sex symbol by releasing NSFW music videos, working out in tight leather pants and setting the internet ablaze with a meme-ready wardrobe malfunction.

But according to Kravitz, he’s been looking for the right partner for nearly a decade and will remain celibate until he finds her — a decision he first mentioned in 2008, when he said he had been celibate for three years.

“[It’s] just a promise I made until I get married,” he told Maxim at the time. “Where I’m at in life, the women have got to come with something else, not just the body, but the mind and spirit.”

That promise has yet to be broken, Kravitz told The Guardian, noting he hasn’t been in a serious relationship for nine years. And while he does want to be in one, he’s aware that could be challenging.

“I have become very set in my ways, in the way I live,” he said.

Last year, Kravitz bared all in a video for TK421, the lead single off his 12th studio album, Blue Electric Light.

Even though the “uncomfortably sexy” video has been described as “an ode to abs, a tribute to morning sexiness and definitely not suitable for consumption at work,” Kravitz told The Guardian he wasn’t going for the “Ooh, let’s be sexy” energy.

But when he was reminded about the suggestive comments the video sparked online, the American Woman singer conceded: “It was fun and it was cool and it was sexy.” – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
