Hong Kong celebrity couple George Lam and Sally Yeh have been married since 1996, and their relationship only grows stronger with each passing day.
Last month, the pair charmed onlookers in Kuala Lumpur with a tender public display of affection: Lam, 78, feeding Yeh, 64, ice cream.
In a recent interview with Chinese media, Yeh got candid about her 29-year marriage, revealing the main reason she chose Lam as her lifelong partner.
“The reason I married him is because he gives me a lot of freedom,” she said.
Yeh – who loves singing, acting and spending time with friends – went on to praise Lam for always respecting her independence and allowing her the space to enjoy the things she loves.
She described marriage as a “job”, explaining that both partners must put in the effort to respect each other’s personal space and learn how to get along.
“(Before Lam), I’ve never had a boyfriend who would let me do things on my own,” she added.
In a previous interview with Hong Kong media, Lam and Yeh – who tied the knot in July 1996 – revealed that one of the secrets to their strong marriage is sleeping in separate rooms.
This is because the arrangement suits their living habits: Lam prefers quiet and peace before bedtime, while Yeh likes to unwind with late-night TV marathons and time on the computer.
