Chinese supermodel Ge Huijie, the ex-girlfriend of Chinese rocker Wang Feng, was said to have reacted with glee to his divorce with Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi. Ge said that Zhang has “finally opened her eyes”.

Zhang, 44, and Wang, 52, confirmed on Monday (Oct 23) that they have divorced after eight years of marriage. They married in May 2015 and have a seven-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son.

Ge dated Wang in 2004 when she was just 17 and later gave birth to their daughter Manxi, who is now 17. After Ge and Wang broke up, Manxi was raised by Wang. Ge has been critical of Wang as she has had little contact with her daughter.

Ge, now 36, launched a live-stream session on Monday night after Wang’s divorce was made public, with the session watched by more than 100,000 people. She could not stop smiling as Chinese singer Wowkie Zhang’s cheery song Bei’er Shuang (Feeling So Good) played in the background.

“This is a matter between them,” Ge said, referring to Wang and Zhang Ziyi. “It doesn’t really concern me, but it feels like a kind of relief for me.”

Ge said she had criticised Wang for his series of relationships and felt frustrated when he married Zhang, a movie star who rose to international fame in Taiwanese director Lee Ang’s martial arts movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000).

“Sister Ziyi has finally opened her eyes and that is good,” Ge said, referring to the divorce.

She added she was no longer in love with Wang when asked by netizens if she still had feelings for him. “I just regard him as the father of my child,” Ge said. “I am grateful to him for our daughter, and he has always taken good care of her.”

Ge said she would give her daughter some time to get over the divorce between Wang and Zhang before considering contacting her daughter.

This is Wang’s third divorce. He married Chinese television host Qi Dan in 2003, but they divorced less than a year later.

Wang married Kang Zuoru, who is not from the entertainment industry, in 2010, and she gave birth to their daughter a year later. Wang and Kang divorced in 2013, with their daughter now living with her. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
