Britney Spears continues to voice her side of the Victor Wembanyama security “slap” incident, posting on Instagram Friday (July 7) that she feels her obscenity-laced reaction was in part because she believes she has never “been treated as an equal person” in the United States.
The post came shortly after cellphone video was shared by TMZ, which shows Spears responding to the incident by yelling, “That’s America for you. F— you all!”
“I’m not sharing this to be a victim,” Spears wrote in the caption of the post. “My reaction was priceless ... BAD??? YES... (But) I’ve had documentaries done about me and none of which I approved ... I have felt helpless in most situations and my experience in Vegas and my reaction was a cry out on all levels.”
“I will say it!!! No, I don’t feel like I have been treated as an equal person in this country,” she continued.
The 41-year-old singer also recounted her time traveling with some of the biggest names in the industry, noting that NSYNC often had fans “throw(ing) themselves at them everywhere (they) went.”
“(But) not one time in my life has a security guard ever hit another person,” she said.
Spears went on to say that her reaction of yelling obscenities and blaming America was better than the option of physically retaliating.
“All people could hear was me saying f— you all ... which was WAY BETTER THAN HITTING HIM BACK!!!” she wrote.
Spears then explained that, regardless of the incident, she’s still a huge fan of Wembanyama, and that his security’s behaviour was not the basketball star’s fault.
On July 6, it was reported that Spears was pressing charges against the security guard, filing a police report that alleged she was assaulted in the incident.
However, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said their investigation determined Spears had inadvertently “hit herself in the face” when her hand was pushed off the NBA star. No arrests have been made and no one has been cited. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
