Indonesian comedian Elly Sugigi may be living a comfortable and successful life today, but she has gone through her fair share of struggles in the past.

In a recent podcast with popular YouTube channel The Sungkars, Elly revealed that she gave up her first child, a daughter named Fitri, to a vegetable seller as she did not have enough money to raise a child then.

“I was so poor to the point I had to give up my child to someone else. That vegetable seller had been wanting a child for nine years too.

“Life wasn’t easy when I was pregnant with my daughter as my marriage to an ex-husband was not approved by his parents,” the 51-year-old said.

Elly added that although she made a deal with the vegetable seller to reunite with Fitri once she turned 17, everything went south as the vegetable seller had moved to another place without notifying her.

After being separated from one another for 20 long years, the comedian finally reunited with her biological daughter in 2018.

According to Elly, they have a good relationship. She also shared that she felt very proud to see how much Fitri has grown.

“We are on good terms now. I just hope she will keep me in her mind if she ever gets married. She has grown to be very beautiful,” Elly added.

Despite missing her very much, Elly said that she had no regrets giving Fitri up all those years ago as she wouldn’t have been able to provide Fitri with a comfortable environment to grow up in.

“She is successful now and that is enough for me,” said Elly.
