Henry Cavill will no longer play Geralt of Rivia after Season 3 of Netflix's hit fantasy series The Witcher, with Liam Hemsworth set to take over the White Wolf's mantle in Season 4.

Cavill announced the news via a social media post.

"My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf," writes the actor, who also recently announce hat he will be returning to the role of Superman.

Hemsworth, best known for playing Gale Hawthorne in the Hunger Games trilogy, also made his casting official via social media.

"As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure," he said in an Instagram post.

Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s bestselling fantasy series of the same name has spawned a multi-medium franchise that also comprises a hit series of video games. Netflix released the first season of the show in 2019, with Season 3 set to premiere in 2023.

Before that, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh will be starring in a four-part prequel series called The Witcher: Blood Origins, which premieres this December.
