Composer-songwriter Datuk Ooi Eow Jin and wife Datin Elaine Khaw have both recovered from Covid-19.
“We are both OK,” Khaw texted a brief message to StarLifestyle on Monday (July 25).
Ooi, Khaw and their son Raymond were hospitalised in late June after testing positive for Covid-19.
“We are clear of Covid-19 and came back home three weeks ago. We were discharged before our son passed away,” she told StarLifestyle.
On July 11, Raymond passed away due to complications from Covid-19.
Although Raymond had been discharged from the hospital earlier, he was rushed back when his condition worsened again. The couple’s 58-year-old son had suffered from brain tumour and was visually impaired.
Singer Datuk DJ Dave, who is the chairman of Yayasan Kebajikan Artis Tanahair (YKAT), recently updated Harian Metro of the family’s situation.
"Eow Jin and Elaine have come to terms with their son's death. Raymond had been unwell since he was 14. His suffering is finally over,” Dave told the Malay news portal.
He also spoke of Ooi’s condition, stating that the 84-year-old is “still very weak".
The famed pianist, who was a member of RTM Orchestra in the 1960s and 1970s, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2015. Six years ago, added Dave, Ooi had a stroke.
During his visit to the couple's home in Petaling Jaya this month (July), Dave gave a donation to Ooi on behalf of YKAT.
"Starting next month, we will contribute an amount of RM500 a month to Ooi to reduce his family's financial burden," Dave continued to the news portal.
