In an appearance on a talk show recently, Hong Kong singer-actress Gillian Chung touched on the topic of men and relationship.

The 41-year-old was previously married to Taiwanese doctor Michael Lai. They divorced 14 months into the marriage in 2020.

This is Chung’s present take on marriage, as translated by a Singaporean news portal: “If you have the courage to love, you must also have the courage to leave. You must depend on yourself because men are unreliable.”

Two years on, her ex has since remarried and is now a dad. Chung, meanwhile, is single and says she’s enjoying this status.

The Swords Of Legends actress further shared: “(Relationships) can be quite troublesome at times – you must worry about the other person’s feelings. Why would you look for someone to annoy you? To anger you? It’s just another problem.”

Back in February, while appearing on a Chinese variety show, Chung had said that her relationship with a former partner had soured due to his “immature and uncaring” behaviour, which became apparent after they got serious.

While Chung did not name names on the variety programme, many believed she was talking about Lai.

In this latest talk show, Chung confessed that she is not in a hurry to find a new love. However, she said she wants her future partner to be someone who is mature and responsible.

Another requirement she has is, “he needs to be reachable, when I am looking for him”.

“Even if he’s busy, I would expect a return call so I can get a reply," she added.
