Sometime last year, Hong Kong actor Owen Cheung had started a fitness plan to take on the role of a boxer in TVB drama The Ringmaster.
However, before he can buff up, Cheung – who had a lean frame – had to first gain weight in order for him to build muscle.
The 34-year-old did this by forcing himself to eat more than usual – five meals a day, most of which consisted of beef and rice, according to one media.
Although Cheung found eating so much to be challenging, he stuck to it and his dietary plan worked a little too well. He ended up putting on 18kg to his original weight.
After that he switched to eating a lot of protein mainly steamed chicken and fish, cutting out salt, oil, sugar and starch.
On top of keeping a close check on his diet, Cheung also progressed to intense training programme, working out for three to four hours every day for nine months to lose the fat and gain muscle.
His hard work has definitely paid off judging by the photos he shared on Instagram recently.
In a previous interview, Cheung had said that his ultimate goal for changing his physique is so he can take on more diverse roles in the future.
Cheung – who had often played comedic characters – wants to try action and drama as well.
The Ringmaster is said to be premiering on Nov 23.
