Singer Kim Jong-kook loves to exercise and talking about exercise, so much so he started a fitness-focused YouTube channel called Gym Jong-kook.
His videos not only got the attention of his fans and exercise enthusiasts, but also that of a trainer.
On Oct 31, a Canadian bodybuilder named Greg Doucette posted a video on his YouTube channel examining a workout video done by Kim.
Titled “Natty Or Not”, Doucette gave both positive and negative comments on Kim’s workout routines.
However, he ended the video by concluding that Kim’s physique might not be all natural and that he could be using steroids. The trainer claimed: "I think he's on HRT (hormone replacement therapy).”
One reason, according to Doucette, was that it’s impossible for a man to look the way Kim does at 45, adding that a person does not have the same testosterone level at his age.
Doucette also highlighted photos of Kim in 1996, 2001 and 2016 as Kim transformed from a thin young man to a muscular person he is today.
Netizens took to commenting to Doucette’s video in support of Kim, such as “KJK maintained that body 365 days a year for 20 years. It's a routine that pro bodybuilders only do during competition season, but it's a daily routine for him” and “He literally lives in the gym.”
A week later, the Running Man star himself decided to respond to Doucette’s claims after it was highlighted by the Korean media.
On his YouTube’s community section, Kim shared that he was going to let the issue go with just a video and a comment. But then he decided to do something more about it after it garnered the media’s attention.
“As a rookie YouTuber, I thought that it would make entertaining content so I couldn't just ignore this,” Kim apparently wrote.
“I’m planning to undergo all the tests that exist in the world. I finished one today. If there are any credible tests that you can recommend, please do so in the comment section.”
Not to be outdone, Doucette posted a new video reacting to Kim’s response to taking the drug tests to prove he is not using any drugs.
Kim, once again, took to counter Doucette: “Now you say there’s no way to check and that it’s not a problem to use it? That it’s legal? All of a sudden? How absurd and funny.
“If it’s a drug, even if it’s legal, it’s still a problem for someone in my position.”
Kim added: “I opened this channel with my modest body simply because I wanted to share my life of exercising based on hard work and healthy (lifestyle) hoping it would help even just one person to lead a healthy life after seeing me as living proof. That’s why I’m operating this channel despite my shortcomings.”
" ... Don’t worry, I’ll undergo all of the other related tests one by one, so just enjoy, everyone."
