Actor Faizal Hussein, who has been in the film industry for many years, says it is getting harder and harder to compete with younger actors in the industry.
During a virtual media conference with mStar, The Star’s Malay-language portal, the 54-year-old actor shared that it remains a challenge to try to keep up in the industry but emphasised that it was the only way for experienced actors like himself to “maintain momentum in the field of acting”.
Faizal stated that he does not stick to a specific formula when it comes to maintaining relevance. However, he does pay attention to his appearance and stick to his personal values.
"Even at this age, I am still concern about my appearance and have to ensure the quality of acting in each project that I undertake. To be honest, it is not easy to compete with so many actors in this industry. I have to learn to evolve with the time," he told mStar.
Faizal is currently starring in the new 12-episode drama I-Tanggang which premiered on Astro Ria on Sept 13. The series, directed by Wan Hasliza Wan Zainuddin, follows Khalil Rayyan, a cancer patient who explores his family issues that will tug at the heartstrings of viewers. The show will also touch on the subject of mental health.
The series also stars Sherie Merlis, Nadhir Nasar, Sofea Jane and Rashidi Ishak.
The actor also told mStar that he is proud to work alongside a stellar cast. He added that this drama is different from the shows that are available on TV currently. “Apart from shining a light on the current reality, this series also discusses the ongoing mental health issues faced by many,” he said.
