Since June 12, netizens have been hash-tagging #BoycottKareenaKapoorKhan after it was reported that she asked for RS12crore (RM6.7mil) for an acting gig.

Last week (June 8), Indian news portals reported that Kareena Kapoor Khan was approached to play the role of Sita (of 'Ramayana') in the film Sita: The Incarnation, described as a mythological period saga film which will be helmed by Alaukik Desai.

Apparently, the Bollywood star had asked to double her usual fee if she's to take on the role.

Wionews.com quoted a source close to the actress: “(Kareena) who usually asks in the Rs6-8 crores range for her films has quoted a sum of Rs12crores which has put the producers in a tizzy.

“In fact, right now, they are reconsidering their decision and also taking the film to a younger actress as well. But talks are on and Kareena remains the first choice."

This alleged demand has irked netizens who have concluded that the 40-year-old is actually trying to “hurt the Hindu sentiments by putting ‘demands’ to play the role of Sita” reported filmfare.com.

India.com also reported that social media is “flooded with people trolling and expressing anger against Kareena” and that asking for so much money for a role is “against the humanity”.

Some other netizens have taken to suggesting other actresses such as Yami Gautam and Kangana Ranaut for the role.

Kareena, who is married to actor Saif Ali Khan, has yet to comment on this matter.
