Fans of the K-drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo have always wished for a second season of the 2016 period drama ever since it gave an open ending.
The main stars of the series, Lee Joon-gi and Lee Ji-eun (better known as IU) recently said they would love to do a second season if it were to happen.
They said this when Joon-gi was hosting an online meet in conjunction with his birthday (April 17), and he received a call from celebrity pal, IU.
Joon-gi and IU, who are fast friends now, first met each other while working on the drama.
A Korean media reported that one of the things the two spoke about during the call was on Scarlet Heart Ryeo, which boasts a number of big names including Kang Ha-neul, Exo’s Baekhyun and Nam Joo-hyuk.
Scarlet Heart Ryeo tells of Hae-soo (IU) who travels back in time to the Joseon era, where she meets Prince Wang So (Joon-gi). The two of them fall deeply in love but various troubles in the palace keep getting in the way of their happiness.
During the conversation, Joon-gi mentioned to IU the question he’s always asked by the fans: Whether there would be a second season in which the star-crossed lovers would meet again.
“If the conditions are right for us to all gather together, there is no reason not to do it,” IU told Joon-gi before logically pointing out that their co-stars are all now popular actors and busy with other projects.
Joon-gi also commented that it was realistically difficult to make this happen.
Nonetheless, to Joon-gi’s delight, IU added: “But if you’re asking my opinion only, there is no reason to not do it.”
According to them, they did film a scene where the two characters actually meet in present day, that did not make the final cut.
Joon-gi recalled: “Lee Ji-eun showcased the most amazing emotional acting that day. I wondered how someone could cry so sorrowfully. Even now, I cry when I see your emotional acting in that scene.”
IU added: “I do feel sad that we couldn’t show fans the scene where Wang So and Hae-soo meet... you looked amazing in it.
“As it was in the modern day, you had short hair and were dressed in a suit ... It’s a shame this scene wasn't shown on TV. Your fans would have gone wild if that had aired.”
