Jasmine Suraya Chin's convincing portrayal of a homewrecker on TV has resulted in the local actress receiving death threats.
The 32-year-old first played a homewrecker, Suzie Tan, in 2019's romance drama Adellea Sofea, coming between Mira Filzah and Ungku Ismail Aziz's characters.
The recently-concluded Bidadari Salju also saw Chin portraying a similar character, Jeanny, tearing apart its lead couple played Sweet Qismina and Adam Lee.
As both were primetime dramas and became quite popular, the actress has been getting a lot of attention lately – but they're not exactly enviable.
"I received a lot of messages from the viewers of Bidadari Salju, saying they hate Jeanny. This includes viewers from Indonesia. There are some who told me they want to slap, splash acid and threaten to kill me," she told Berita Harian.
"I would be lying if I said I wasn't terrified by the threats. My mum is especially worried for me and asked me to be careful and to stop taking on these roles anymore."
Chin added she herself has been cheated on in the past and would never think of becoming a homewrecker in real-life:
"I've been cheated on twice. I know how painful it is to be betrayed. My heart felt like it was being pierced through repeatedly. So I would never be a homewrecker and ruin a couple's relationship."
She has decided to hang up her hat when it comes to playing such roles. "I think playing Suzie Tan and Jeanny is enough for me. I don't mind playing an antagonist but I won't play a homewrecker anymore."
