Actor Dwayne Johnson, his wife Lauren and two young daughters tested positive for Covid-19.
Johnson revealed, in an 11-minute Instagram video on Sept 3, that while he had experienced his fair share of challenges in life, Covid-19 was "much different than overcoming nasty injuries, being evicted or being broke."
The 48-year-old said his two daughters – Jasmine, 4, and Tiana, 2 – only experienced minor symptoms like sore throat but he and his wife "had a rough go."
Fortunately, the Jumanji actor and his family have fully recovered after a three-week battle. "We're on the other end of it. We're on the other side. We're no longer contagious. We are healthy. We got through Covid-19 stronger and healthier."
He added: "We are counting our blessings right now. We're well aware that it isn't always the case that we get on the end of Covid-19 stronger or healthier. Some of my best friends lost their parents, their loved ones to this virus that's incredibly relentless and unforgiving."
Johnson also talked about how he caught the virus.
"We picked up Covid-19 from very close family friends. These are people we love and trust. These are people we still love and trust. They're devastated that they were the ones who picked it up - they had no idea by the way how they picked it up - they're devastated that it led to them infecting our family. Luckily we're able to mitigate it and it didn't get out of control."
The action star says he has been doing his best to keep him and his family safe since the pandemic struck.
"I'm incredibly disciplined on things like health, best practices and safety measures when it comes to my family, friends and people I care about. I applied that discipline beginning in March during lockdown. We've isolated. I had not worked. I feel like I did a pretty good job."
Johnson stressed the need to take an extra precautionary step – testing family friends for Covid-19 before visiting each other's houses:
"Have them get tested the day before. If they test positive, then stay away. If they don't, then come over."
