Actor Daler Yusuf reached out to his followers on Instagram on Aug 5, asking them to pray for his grandmother who was critically-ill with Covid-19.

"She's in a coma and her doctors say her lungs are in bad shape. I don't know what to do. Please pray for her," read the heartbreaking post.

Unfortunately, two days later, the Uzbek actor revealed she had died.

"To my grandmother, you may have left me today but your prayers stay," the 27-year-old posted a moving tribute on Aug 7.

"For every success I've achieved, it may be because of your prayers to Allah. For every strength it took for me to travel far away from home, I carry your strength with me.

"Thank you for all the things you have done for me."

Daler told StarLifestyle in a 2018 interview he grew up in a cotton farm with limited electricity in rural Uzbekistan.

He was raised by his grandparents, who were cotton farmers, after his mother passed away when he was six.

A decade ago, the then 17-year-old came to Malaysia to further his studies and stumbled into modelling and acting along the way.

He has since landed lead roles in local dramas like 2017's Encik Suami Mat Salih Celup and 2019's Nota Buat Cempaka.

"My grandmother has been my mother to me... I may not know what a mother's love feels like but I'm sure what she has given me is more than what I could ever repay."

Al-Fatihah to my grandmother. Writing this is not easy. Its heavy, but I want to tell my friends and my followers on how amazing my grandmother was. After all she deserved it. My mother passed away when I was at a very young age. So my grandmother has been my mother to me. She was my rock and forever will be. I may not know what mothers love feels like but Im sure what she has given me is more than what I could every repay. And I thank Allah swt for that. I truly do. And Allah swt is indeed fair and merciful. To my grandmother , you may have left me today , but your prayers stay. Untuk setiap kejayaan Daler, it may be because of your prayers to Allah swt. Untuk setiap kekuatan Daler merantau jauh dari rumah, ada kekuatan Ochajon yang Daler bawa bersama. Thank you for all the things you have done for me. Moga Allah tempatkan Ochajon , di syurgaNya. Moga Allah redha dengan setiap kebaikan Ochajon besarkan Daler. Moga kita berjumpa lagi dalam syurga. Salam sayang untuk kekasih hati Daler. Al Fatihah.
