Namewee donates medical supplies to 10 hospitals in Malaysia

After completing his 14-day self-quarantine, Namewee donates medical supplies to protect frontliners and urges other Malaysians to be more pro-active in the battle against Covid-19

The movement control order may be keeping Malaysians confined to their homes while frontliners continue working to save lives, but Namewee says we can all do more to make a positive contribution to the nation’s battle against Covid-19.

As one of Malaysia’s most vocal entertainment personalities, Namewee is putting his money where his mouth is, by donating medical supplies to protect frontliners so that they may continue their work with peace of mind.

In his bi-lingual message (Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin), aptly posted on World Health Day (April 7), Namewee revealed that he has made arrangements to deliver medical supplies to 10 hospitals in remote villages and rural towns in Malaysia.

“Thanks to the power of netizens, we have managed to buy a lot of masks, goggles, personal protective clothing (PPE), ready to be distributed to 10 hospitals in rural villages and small towns in Malaysia."

The 36-year-old hopes that his "small" donation can start the ball rolling and inspire others to pitch in.

“My aim in showing these pictures (boxes labeled 'sumbangan ikhlas dari namewee untuk Covid-19') is so that more and more people will realise that many hospitals in Malaysia are in urgent need of more Covid-19 protective materials and equipment.

“I hope more people will pay attention to this issue! I'm not a rich person, so my small donation is not enough...”

Namewee had earlier said in one of his videos that he decided to donate medical supplies and other protective gear to Malaysia’s frontliners after seeing pictures of healthcare workers having to resort to wearing flimsy plastic bags and garbage bin liners to protect themselves from being infected by the virus.

“If kind-hearted souls are willing to offer help and donate generously, it is recommended that you extend your help to rural hospitals due to their lack of access to adequate medical resources. Also, it is best to ship the goods directly to the hospital of your choice," he added.

Acknowledging that the past three weeks of MCO have been tough on many people, Namewee said he hopes to see Malaysia rise again soon.

“I would also like to thank every hero who fought for us! Doctors, nurses, police officers, military personnel, and everyone involved! Malaysia will definitely win!"

He concluded his message by declaring: "Malaysia Boleh!"

Namewee’s donation efforts have been praised by netizens with comments like: “Thank you for your generous contribution”, “ My kind of idol”, “You will be blessed with eternal peace for your good deed.”
