Hong Kong-born American stand-up comedian, actor and writer Jimmy O. Yang will be making a stop in this part of the world as part of his global tour.

The 35-year-old funnyman, who is also fluent in three Chinese dialects, is scheduled to perform at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Dec 7.

You might recognise Yang from his recent role as Dr Chan Kaifang in Space Force, a comedy series on Netflix, or as the playboy Bernard Tai in the film Crazy Rich Asians in 2018.

Yang, who has a degree in economics, has made quite a name for himself in the comedy world, including receiving a rare standing ovation when he appeared on The Arsenio Hall Show.

He is best known for his role as shady app developer Jian-Yang in the HBO series Silicon Valley.

He also landed his first leading role in the 2021 Netflix romantic film Love Hard, starring opposite Nina Dobrev (of The Vampire Diaries fame).

As a writer, Yang also released How to American: An Immigrant's Guide to Disappointing Your Parents in 2018, which is a witty and candid look at his life as a Chinese immigrant who yearned to make it big in the entertainment industry.

The comedic actor also publishes videos on his own YouTube channel, mainly demonstrating his cooking skills and discussing his passion for cooking and the food he enjoys eating.

Yang did his first stand-up gig when he was just 21-years-old at the Ha Ha Comedy Club in North Hollywood, Los Angeles.

After graduating from university, Yang worked a variety of odd jobs including serving as a deejay, seating customers at a comedy club, and selling used cars, all while performing stand-up at The Comedy Palace.

Before becoming a series regular on Silicon Valley, Yang had roles in a number of other TV shows, including 2 Broke Girls and Criminal Minds, amongst others. Yang also has a comedy special called Good Deal on Amazon Prime Video.

The tickets for Yang’s comedy show in KL will go on sale on July 1, with pre-sale starting on June 28.
