The Borneo Cultures Museum just opened yesterday in Kuching, Sarawak and visits are already fully booked for this month, according to a posting on its official social media channels.

Online bookings began on March 1 and in less than 10 days, more than 13,000 slots for museum visits had been snapped up. Limited walk-in slots, subject to availability, are offered daily (this month) for those without advanced bookings.

Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM), which is housed in a 30,000sq m state-of-the-art building, is Malaysia's largest museum complex and the second largest museum in South-East Asia after the Singapore National Museum.

The brand-new museum features five levels and an exhibition area of 6,726sq m. For visitors, there are over 1,000 artefacts that represent the rich history, culture and heritage of the diverse population and indigenous peoples of Sarawak and Borneo.

The development of BCM commenced in 2014 and the RM323mil project was fully funded by the Sarawak state government.

As a world-class repository, BCM is also planning to attract academics and researchers from both local and international institutions.

"As can be seen in developed economies, a society entrenched with research culture and a data-driven mindset will have greater analytical skills to improve every aspect of life,” said Premier of Sarawak Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in a Bernama report after BCM's recent launch.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who managed to book a slot, make sure to check out the three permanent gallery floors at the Borneo Cultures Museum during your visit.

These permanent galleries carry the themes: In Harmony With Nature, Objects Of Desire and Time Changes. The remaining two floors include a children's gallery, arts and craft hub, temporary exhibition area, museum shop, restaurant, event halls and more.

If you missed out on your chance the first time, make sure to reserve your slots as soon as bookings reopen. The Borneo Cultures Museum offers free admission for the first three months only.
