Stream time: road trippin' sci-fi reunion to spooky storytelling

SCRIPT READING: THESIS & APONG

Date and Time: Aug 7 and 8, 9pm

Presented by Anomalist Production, this virtual script reading session features two works by theatre newcomers.

First up on Aug 7 is Thesis, written by ​​Naja Wan Abdullah. Thesis tells the story of a final year student Luqman, who is struggling to complete his thesis related to ghosts in Malaysia. Things get too real when the stories Luqman is researching on begin to haunt him.

Next is Apong on Aug 8, written by Aisy Afendi. This play is about Munir who is stranded at the college during the Movement Control Order together with other students.

One night, they share stories about the spooky events that had taken place at the college. However, Munir encounters some disturbances that make him question his new friends.

ONCE UPON A TIME 1

PenangPac’s Once Upon A Time 1 is a double-bill of local folklore, directed by Penang-based playwright/director Fa Abdul.

Badang: The Magnificent follows the tale of Badang, a slave who wished for superhuman strength after meeting an otherworldly creature. But you know what they say, be careful what you wish for.

In Si Tanggang: The Ungrateful Son, Tanggang’s desire to become wealthy prompts him to leave his widowed mother to make a fortune and promises to return for her.

After spending years in a foreign land, Tanggang returns home as a rich merchant who is married to a princess. But is he still the same filial son

DRAMA RAKYAT WORKSHOP

Date and Time: Aug 8, 11am

Kakiseni Junior, together with Riuh4Rakyat, will be hosting a virtual arts related workshop every Sunday this month for those aged 10 above (including adults).

First up, in the Drama Rakyat Workshop with theatre activist/acting coach Nawfal Zamri, learn how to communicate and boost your self-confidence in this drama and speech workshop.

Participants will go through a series of exercises and games to help them develop better stage presence and public speaking.

All proceeds will be channeled to Projek Bangsa Malaysia for Frontliners, Tempatan Food Bank by Tempatan Fest, Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) & Refuge For Refugee.

Drama Rakyat Workshop, ticketed, will stream via Zoom.

SCREENPLAY READING: TERBAIK DARI LANGIT

Nik Amir Mustapha’s gorgeously-shot Terbaik Dari Langit is a gift that keeps on giving. What's not to like about a road movie about the quest to make an experimental sci-fi film? Last month, the cast returned for a special benefit script reading session.

This Sunday, the tight-knit cast (of film and theatre friends) from the movie will return for another script reading session, with proceeds to help a community donation drive. Bront Palarae, Iedil Putra, Amerul Affendi, Nadiya Nisaa, Megat Shahrizal and more will be a part of this virtual reunion. Pitahati's main man Ilham Nasir will also make an appearance.
