Global favourites at festive buffet

Grilled Chicken with Pineapple (foreground) and Grilled Lamb Rack are must-have dishes.

WITH more than two decades of experience managing hotel banquets under his belt, planning a Christmas spread with popular dishes from multiple countries was not too difficult for chef Mohd Taib Ridhwan and his team.

The Element by Westin Kuala Lumpur executive head chef is keen to offer diners a wide variety of cuisines in the “Travel the Globe” buffet.

“Malaysians have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic for close to two years now and many are not able to travel to other countries.

“So, we wanted to create an international buffet that features special dishes from various countries.

“The Christmas and New Year spread will feature about 100 dishes,” said Mohd Taib.

Diners will be treated to a gastronomic feast ranging from appetisers such as cold cuts and salads as well as soups to popular dishes from numerous countries and Christmas desserts such as Yule Log.

Start the buffet with a savoury and creamy flavour of Roasted Honey Pumpkin Soup before checking out the meaty treats.

As for the mains, the Grilled Lamb Rack with Pesto Sauce is a delight to the taste buds.

“We marinate the lamb with assorted herbs for six hours before grilling and serving it with pesto sauce,” Mohd Taib revealed.

The meat, coated with pesto sauce, is skilfully grilled and finished in the oven for a taste of a tender and flavourful Christmas indulgence.

Using a similar marinade, the Roasted Herb Sirloin Beef did not disappoint either.

The meat was roasted whole in low to medium heat before being sliced, into portions, to expose its medium doneness.

It has a welcoming herbal aroma from the assorted herbs used.

The dish also goes well with roasted bell peppers, potatoes and Brussels sprouts.

For a slightly unconventional taste, the Grilled Chicken with Pineapple has a sharp, tangy flavour.

Salted egg in meat dishes is not unusual in Malaysia but having it with fish is not too common.

Diners at the buffet can try the savoury Fried Fish tossed in Salted Egg Sauce and Curry Leaves.

Also worth checking out is the Seafood Paella with a generous serving of prawns and squid as well as cherry tomatoes, mixed beans and coriander.

Other dishes here are Irish Beef Goulash, Grilled Lamb in Argentinean Chimichurri Sauce and Grilled Snapper in Mango Cream Sauce.

Meanwhile, the Traditional Christmas Turkey and Stuffing, Yorkshire Pudding and Pesto Baked Salmon are some of the staples on the buffet table.

The Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve buffet dinner are available from 6.30pm to 10pm at RM158 nett for adults and RM79 nett per child.

The Christmas Day and New Year’s Day buffet brunch are available from 12.30pm to 3.30pm at RM138 nett for adults and RM69 nett per child.
