Sabah Giant Grouper Steamed with Premium Soy Sauce.

CHINESE New Year is more than just a cultural festival. This auspicious occasion is symbolic of new beginnings and a prosperous year ahead.

On the eve of the celebration, loved ones gather and enjoy a hearty feast as is the tradition every year.

This year, instead of slaving over the stove, why not enjoy the authentic tastes of traditional Chinese dishes at Le Meridien Putrajaya?

Its restaurant Le Mei offers a range of splendid festive dishes specially curated by executive Chinese chef Lim Kian Meng.

Take in the restaurant’s vibrant atmosphere with its attractive Chinese art pieces that add to the dining experience.

The Sabah Giant Grouper Steamed with Premium Soy Sauce is a perfect way to start dinner.

Instead of being deep-fried, the fish is steamed at low heat for 15 minutes to preserve its quality and freshness. To me, a bowl of rice would have made this even more enjoyable.

The Stewed Sea Cucumber with Free Range Chicken and Black Truffle offered hints of earthiness from the use of truffle.

The chicken, Lim said, is marinated in a special sauce for 30 minutes before it is fried in a wok for 20 minutes.

The wok gives it that wok hei flavour and brings out the chicken’s succulent taste with the sea cucumber soaking up the juices.

To warm the stomach, diners can delight in the thick and tasty Shunde Style Traditional Fish Soup.

This savoury broth had little fillets of wan yu fish, diced carrots and bamboo shoots and herbal accents of spring onions.

The Wok-fried Scallops with Asparagus and Fresh Mushroom is an exquisite mix of piquant sweetness.

The fluffy scallops marry nicely with the generous amount of vegetables, leaving a pleasant combination of flavours on the taste buds.

The Wok-fried Lamb Rack with Crispy Garlic and Chilli stood out for its mouth-watering appeal.

The lamb pieces are coated with flour and spices, then deep-fried before being wok-fried with garlic and dry chillies.

This was such an inviting dish to savour even if it was a touch spicy.

For dessert, the Pan-fried Glutinous Rice Cake is something to look forward to.

These chewy cakes are moderately sweet because they are prepared with palm sugar instead of white sugar.

This dining experience is available in three menus — Wealth and Fortunes Set (RM3,388), Everlasting Prosperity Set (RM2,388nett) and Spring and Happiness Set (RM1,688nett).
