BYD Sime Motors opens largest Sarawak 3S centre in Miri

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD Sime Motors has opened a new 3S (sales, service and spare parts) centre in Miri, Sarawak, as part of its network expansion in East Malaysia.

In a statement, the company said the 12,228 sq ft facility is its largest 3S centre in Sarawak to date, comprising a 5,838 sq ft showroom with space for five vehicles and a 6,390 sq ft service centre.

The service centre has six service bays and can handle up to 35 vehicles a day.

Sime Motors Southeast Asia managing director Jeffrey Gan said the new centre would increase the company's sales and aftersales capacity in Sarawak.

“As more customers embrace electric mobility, we want to ensure that our network grows alongside them, with convenient access not only to our vehicles, but also to the service and aftersales care that underpin a positive ownership experience,” he said.

The facility, which also includes electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities, is operated by Kah Progression Auto Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oriental Holdings Bhd.

Kah Progression Auto has 15 employees handling sales and aftersales operations at the Miri centre.

The opening brings BYD Sime Motors' authorised outlets in Sarawak to three, located in Kuching, Sibu and Miri.

The company previously opened its first 3S centre in East Malaysia in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, in December 2024.

BYD Malaysia managing director Jacob Ma said the expansion was aimed at improving access to its vehicles and aftersales services as EV adoption extends beyond major cities.

“As EV adoption grows beyond major cities, we want to be closer to our customers and make our products and aftersales support more accessible,” he said.
