KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia has begun production of the new City Hatchback at its manufacturing plant in Melaka ahead of the model’s introduction in the Malaysian market.

The production rollout was witnessed by Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Shikata Noriyuki.

Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Narushi Yazaki said the rollout reflected the company’s continued investment in local manufacturing.

“Honda Malaysia has grown alongside this nation, and we are privileged to be part of the deep-rooted relationship between Malaysia and Japan, which spans economy, cultural, and people-to-peopleexchange,” he said.

The Melaka plant began operations in 2003 and supports Honda Malaysia’s local vehicle production.

The company said it currently works with about 500 local suppliers, while close to 20,000 people are employed across Honda Malaysia, its dealership network and supplier partners nationwide.

The new City Hatchback follows the recent introduction of the new City Sedan.

Honda Malaysia said more than 51,000 units of the City Hatchback have been sold in Malaysia since the model was introduced in 2021.

The updated City Hatchback will feature refreshed styling and enhanced connectivity while retaining its ULTRA Seats configuration.

Shikata also commended Honda Malaysia for combining Japanese technology and manufacturing expertise with Malaysian talent and local suppliers.
