SEOUL: South Korea’s top tax official has called on Mexico to provide tax support for South Korean firms operating in the country during the first bilateral high-level meeting with Mexico’s tax authority, the National Tax Service says.

NTS Commissioner Lim Kwang-hyun met with his Mexican counterpart Antonio Martinez Dagnino, commissioner of the Mexican Tax Administration Service, or SAT, in Mexico City on Tuesday.

Lim shared specific challenges such as delays in value-added tax refunds and double taxation. He requested administrative support for South Korean businesses to operate with greater stability and contribute further to the Mexican economy.

“The SAT will actively engage with South Korean businesses to resolve any tax-related challenges they may encounter,” Dagnino responded, further pledging to provide comprehensive tax administration support, including guidance materials on corporate income tax filing.

Lim also presented South Korea’s experience in digital tax administration, including e-tax invoice and Hometax, as well as its plans for digital transformation, such as artificial intelligence use and big data. — The Korea Herald/ANN
