KUALA LUMPUR: OGX Group Bhd is expanding into renewable energy following the appointment of its wholly-owned subsidiary, OGX Green Tech Sdn Bhd, as an authorised Malaysian distributor for China-based energy storage and inverter specialist Zhejiang Hyxi Technology Co Ltd (HYXI).

In a statement, the IT infrastructure solutions provider said OGX Green Tech will market, distribute and sell HYXI products in Malaysia, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), inverters and batteries.

The new business will target residential and commercial and industrial (C&I) customers, as well as Malaysia’s growing data centre market.

OGX said it plans to tap demand for energy storage solutions from data centre operators seeking cleaner and more resilient alternatives to conventional diesel backup generators amid rising artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data-intensive workloads.

The group said the move into renewable energy complements its existing enterprise data centre solutions business and allows it to leverage its customer relationships, technology capabilities and systems integration expertise.

OGX executive director and managing director Tan Suan Loong said the HYXI appointment provides the group with a platform to establish and scale its presence in the energy storage segment.

“The appointment by HYXI brings together its technology and product expertise in energy storage solutions with OGX’s local market access, distribution capabilities and systems integration experience.

“This combination provides us with a strong platform to establish and scale our presence in the energy storage segment as a new and complementary growth vertical for OGX.

“The transition towards cleaner and more resilient energy solutions is creating growing opportunities across the residential, C&I and data centre segments,” he said.

Tan said the new business could broaden OGX’s revenue base and allow the group to participate in the longer-term growth of Malaysia’s energy transition.
