Buying activity on Bursa picks up after subdued early trading


KUALA LUMPUR: After a slow start, the FBM KLCI jumped in morning trade as the bargain-hunting activity on the domestic market picked up.

At 12.30pm, the benchmark index rose 14.47 points to 1,681.41. Stocks that led the market higher included CIMB, gaining 19 sen to RM7.84, IHH climbing 38 sen to RM8, PETRONAS Gas adding 18 sen to RM17.38.

Bursa Malaysia was broadly higher with 314 advancing counters outpacing 263 declining. The trading volume was 2.14 billion shares changing hands for RM1.45bil.

Of the 13 market sectors, only healthcare was negative. The leading sectors included technology rising 1.11%, financial services, up 0.92%, utilities adding 0.86% and plantations gaining 0.32%.

Leading actives included Zetrix AI up 0.5 sen to 20.5 sen, AirAsia rising five sne to 58 sen and Capital A gaining 3.5 sen to 27.5 sen. Aimax, which was the top traded share with 164.18 million shares done, was unchanged at one sen.

A rebound was seen in regional markets, with Japan's Nikkei gaining 1.38% to 65,018. 

South Korea's Kospi added 1.13% to 7,086.

China's Shanghai composite index rose 0.22% to 3,958 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 0.36% to 25,131.
