Malaysia's PPI rises 9.2% in June, highest in 2026 - DOSM

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 9.2 per cent in June 2026, up from 7.8 per cent in the previous month, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

In its latest report, PPI Local Production, June 2026, DOSM said the increase was the highest recorded so far this year.

"Sectoral performance in June 2026 was similar to that of the previous month, with all sectors recording increases.

"The mining sector registered an increase of 29.0 per cent, following a 52.6 per cent rise in May 2026. The double-digit increase was driven by the crude petroleum extraction index, which rose 40.7 per cent,” it said.

DOSM said the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector increased 9.1 per cent, compared with 8.9 per cent in the previous month.

The increase was supported by the fishing and growing of perennial crops indices, which rose 12.5 per cent and 10.8 per cent, respectively.

The manufacturing sector increased 7.2 per cent, up from 3.5 per cent in May 2026, mainly driven by higher prices in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, as well as computer, electronic and optical products, which rose 30.1 per cent and 8.3 per cent, respectively.

Meanwhile, DOSM said the water supply and electricity and gas supply sectors increased 12.7 per cent and 10.2 per cent, respectively. - Bernama
