Prioritising compute power over health

THERE is no profit in allocating land for public healthcare provision, whereas there is for data centres (DCs). Without the outcry over scarcity of land for a government hospital in one of the most densely populated parts of the central Klang Valley – the Petaling Jaya-Subang-Puchong corridor – land may not have been found to build one.

There really is a need for a government hospital in this corridor. For example, there is only one government hospital in Petaling Jaya, the 946-bed Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, operated by the Higher Education Ministry. The city has a population of over 800,000 and this excludes Subang Jaya, which comes under a separate city council and Puchong.
