Gamuda’s Tasmanian green projects win Aussie support

KUALA LUMPUR: Two Tasmanian projects under Gamuda Bhd’s unit, Gamuda Renewable Pty Ltd (Gamuda Renewables), namely, the 200MW Weasel Solar Farm and 341MW Cellars Hill Wind Farm, are among the 19 successful projects selected under Australia’s Capacity Investment Scheme.

The initiative is the Australian government’s flagship revenue underwriting scheme, designed to de-risk private investment and accelerate the delivery of renewable energy (RE) by providing a government-backed revenue safety net for up to 15 years.

In a statement, Gamuda said both projects are being developed by Gamuda Renewables in partnership with RE developer Alternate Path and local landowners, the Downie family.

Both projects will be connected to the existing on-site 220 kilovolt transmission line, and Gamuda Renewables will deliver both projects under engineering, procurement, and construction contracts with Gamuda Engineering Pty Ltd.

“Subject to achieving the final investment decision, the construction of the Weasel Solar Farm is expected to begin in early 2027, followed by the Cellars Hill Wind Farm in 2028,” it said.

The group added that it contributes strong regional expertise in large-scale infrastructure development and project execution, with a four-GW RE pipeline spanning solar, wind, hydro, and battery storage projects to support long-term energy and water security in Australia and Malaysia. —Bernama
