KUALA LUMPUR: Terberg Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TTM), a joint venture between Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd and Netherlands-based Royal Terberg Group BV, has launched its fully battery-powered electric terminal tractor, the YT201EV, amid growing global demand for electrified port and logistics equipment.

In a statement, the company said the YT201EV was unveiled at the Terberg Global Distributor Day, attended by more than 60 dealers and delegates from over 30 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

TTM chief executive officer Boo Wei Ching said the company has secured more than 250 pre-orders worth about RM200mil from domestic and international markets, including Morocco, Ivory Coast, Congo and Ecuador, ahead of the model’s debut.

“This is in line with our three-year strategy to strengthen our position as a market leader in sustainable port operations, with a target production volume of more than 3,000 units of TTM’s diesel and electric variants in Malaysia,” he said. Boo said the transition to electrification would contribute to reducing emissions while maintaining operational reliability for customers.

The first YT201EV unit will be delivered to Port of Tanjung Pelepas in the third quarter of 2026, followed by deliveries to Marsa Maroc and Port Nador West Med in Morocco within the same quarter.

Since its establishment in 2005, TTM has delivered more than 8,000 terminal tractors across diesel and electric variants to over 50 countries.

Boo said TTM has also invested over RM12mil to expand its fabrication and assembly capabilities, enhance warehouse facilities and establish a dedicated training centre to support growing demand for electric fleets.

Meanwhile, Terberg Special Vehicles global sales director Jan Willem van den Brand said: “With the next generation YT201EV and the upgraded YT203EV, we are offering customers a clearly structured electric portfolio, tailored to operational needs and regional requirements.”

“Producing electric terminal tractors from three strategic locations – Malaysia, Europe and the United States – allows us to combine global scale with localised production and offer long-term support for customers worldwide,” he added.

The YT201EV features a 4x2 rear-wheel drive configuration with an elevating fifth wheel and a gross combination weight of up to 85 tonnes.

Powered by a 240kW peak electric motor with regenerative braking and a CATL Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, the tractor offers up to 30 hours of operating time per charge and can be ultra-fast charged in under one hour.
