SME Bank names Zulkiflee Hashim as chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Bhd (SME Bank), a subsidiary of Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd, has appointed Zulkiflee Hashim as its chairman, effective March 6, 2026.

In a statement, SME Bank said Zulkiflee was first appointed as an independent non-executive director of the bank on March 6, 2019, where he has since contributed to strengthening its governance and providing strategic oversight in support of its developmental mandate.

He has more than 35 years of banking experience, with leadership roles at Citibank Malaysia, Deutsche Bank Malaysia and Hong Leong Bank Bhd. He served as executive director of Hong Leong Bank from July 1998 to October 2011 and later as chief operating officer, group strategic support, before retiring in 2015.

Zulkiflee currently serves as an independent non-executive director of Hong Leong MSIG Takaful Bhd and Al Rajhi Banking & Investment Corporation (M) Bhd. He previously served on the boards of GuocoLand (M) Bhd and Hong Leong Bank Bhd.
