KUALA LUMPUR: The Seri-Ibu Kraf Week, a collaborative effort between CIMB Group Holdings Bhd and Sime Darby Property Bhd, reflects a structured approach to value creation within the creative economy, driven by strong royal patronage.

The programme was graced by Her Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Group managing director and chief executive officer of Sime Darby Property Datuk Seri Azmir Merican said: “What makes this Seri-Ibu Kraf Week truly special is its tangible impact. Through this programme, hundreds of artisans are given access to a fairer and more structured market.

“Traditional skills such as weaving, metalwork, and ceramics continue to be preserved and the younger generation is encouraged to view craft not merely as a heritage, but as a dignified and viable career path.”

Sime Darby Property hosted the Piala Seri-Ibu Kraf prize giving ceremony yesterday, celebrating the skills, dedication and creativity of local craft practitioners as part of the event taking place from Feb 4 to March 1 at the group’s KLGCC Mall here.

The Piala Seri-Ibu Kraf recognised excellence across key craft disciplines including textiles, non-metal works, metalsmithing and innovation.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of the “Seri-Ibu special honour award”, personally selected by Her Royal Highness the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang to acknowledge individuals for their exceptional commitment and lifelong contribution to the preservation of Malaysian cultural identity. The public were invited to participate through the “people’s choice award”, voting for their favourite works exhibited at KLGCC Mall.

Five awards were given out, with each participant receiving a cash prize of RM5,000 along with a trophy and certificate. The competition aims to empower over 500 artisans, with 150 original submissions received from students, hobbyists, and professional makers nationwide.
