BEIJING: To showcase the innovative development of traditional Chinese culture and boost the “Shopping in China” initiative, a cultural space named “Time Tells Stories – China Impression” has opened at the international departure area of Beijing Capital International Airport.

Targeting global travellers, the cultural space – jointly created by Capital Airport and People’s Creativity – officially opened on Feb 6, with a mandate to enhance the influence of Chinese civilization.

Chen Jiayan, operation manager of the “Time Tells Stories – China Impression” flagship store, said since its trial operation, it has served more than 10,000 tourists, and nearly 1,000 people come to the store every day to visit, take photos and buy products.

“The most popular cultural and creative works include refrigerator stickers with intangible cultural heritage themes from various regions, ceramics with modern design, tea utensils and original ethnic minority intangible cultural heritage handicrafts,” she said.

Chen stressed that through the systematic aggregation and presentation of a series of high-quality works, it displays the inheritance and innovative vitality of Chinese civilization in the new era

These tell Chinese stories, spreading Chinese voices and become a bridge for friendly exchanges and cooperation between different countries, ethnic groups and cultures around the world.

Since the culture space opened, it has attracted many foreign tourists to stop for a visit.

Mexican tourist Edly said they are fond of cultural and creative products that embody the spirit of Chinese aesthetics and contemporary innovative expression, and bought them as souvenirs.

While Beijing Capital International Airport serves as an important global aviation hub, shouldering a mission of showcasing the country’s image and promoting mutual learning of civilizations, People’s Creativity undertakes a responsibility of promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture and spreading the voice of China.

“This collaboration and co-creation is a landmark practice in response to the cultural ‘going global’ and serving the ‘Shopping in China’ initiative being promoted around the country,” Huang Yusong, manager of the Operations Management Department under Beijing Capital Airport Commercial & Trading Co Ltd, said.

The establishment of space and the exquisite presentation of products are like a vivid animation of a contemporary “Chinese story” unfolding slowly to the world, Chen said.

It is an important window for international travellers to understand a real, three-dimensional, and comprehensive China, Chen added.

The interior design of the space deeply integrates Chinese cultural elements and modern aesthetics, and through artistic scene creation, takes the viewer into a perceptible, touchable, and interactive cultural field, Chen said.

“Every detail of the space carries the heart of cultural narrative, making the space itself a perceptible Chinese work.”

German tourist Nick, who chose to be known only by his first name, noted that the dazzling array of cultural and creative products in the space is the most intuitive carrier of Chinese culture.
