SENAI: Johor continues to attract high-tech manufacturing activities with the state-of-the-art semiconductor production facilities at the Senai Airport City Free Zone.

Taiwan-based Linco Technology Co Ltd has invested in its first manufacturing plant in the Asean region, focusing on semiconductor-related products for the Asia-Pacific markets.

Linco Technology managing director Ray Liang said the plant in Johor represents the company’s long-term commitment to strengthen its semiconductor supply chain.

"We intend to upgrade our capacity in the semiconductor supply chain and support Malaysia’s growth in the high-tech sector," he said at the ground-breaking ceremony of Lincotec (M) Sdn Bhd plant here on Wednesday (Feb 4).

The plant, on a 4ha (10-acre) site, will serve as the company's strategic manufacturing base in South-East Asia, supporting its regional supply chain and capacity-building efforts.

Liang said the Johor facility will focus on thin film sputtering and dry plasma etching process tools and systems, supporting advanced semiconductor processes.

"We aim to strengthen manufacturing capacity, process integration and operational scalability for customers across Southeast Asia and the broader Asia-Pacific market," he said.

Headquartered in Taichung City, Taiwan, Linco Technology supplies semiconductor systems in packaging (SiP) sputtering equipment.

Senai Airport City chief executive officer Gan Seng Keong said Linco Technology’s investment strengthened Johor’s position as a high-tech industrial hub.

"It also reinforces our focus on green and knowledge-intensive industries. Collaboration like this will create high-skilled jobs," he said.

In a separate event, DHL Supply Chain Malaysia (DHL) has commenced operations at its new Malaysia South Region Hub 2, also in the Senai Airport City Free Zone.

The commencement of South Region 2 underscores the continued collaboration between DHL Supply Chain Malaysia and Senai Airport City in supporting high-value industries and logistics-led economic growth in Johor.

"The fully-occupied facility highlights strong demand for integrated logistics infrastructure within Senai Airport City, reinforcing its role as a key industrial and logistics hub in the southern region," DHL said in a statement.

It said the new Malaysia South Region 2 Hub marked the company’s second major logistics investment in Johor, following the opening of DHL Region Hub 1 in April last year.
