PORT DICKSON: The electoral battlegrounds for the Malay vote are different for Johor and Negri Sembilan and cannot be made a direct comparison, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
The caretaker Mentri Besar and state Pakatan Harapan chairman said any mandate is ultimately given by the Rakyat.
“We leave it to the voters. Let’s not compare Johor and Negri Sembilan voters as they can make their own choices.
“I am confident that we (Pakatan) still have their support,” he said when met after attending Friday prayers here on Friday (July 22).
On whether larger-scale campaigns will be carried out in the coming week, Aminuddin said it will be determined by the state’s party election director.
“For candidates, we still have to go to the ground and meet voters,” he added.
Aminuddin is contesting the Linggi seat against Barisan Nasional Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli.
Earlier Friday, Umno’s Khairy Jamaluddin said Pakatan should ask itself why the coalition has failed to secure Malay support rather than blame other parties.
Khairy said that based on a study conducted on the performance of Pakatan candidates in the recent Johor election, it was found that they secured under 10% of votes from Malay voters.
"In Johor, I just received figures from a study that was conducted, showing that Pakatan candidates did not even get 10% of the Malay vote.
"So, Pakatan should ask itself before blaming others, and before claiming that I am playing up racial issues and so on," he said.
Polling day for the Negri Sembilan state elections is set for Aug 1.
