MISC expands dual-fuel fleet with new LNG-powered Suezmax vessels

KUALA LUMPUR: MISC Group’s petroleum and product shipping arm, AET has signed shipbuilding contracts for two LNG dual-fuel Suezmax vessels.

In a statement, MISC said the vessels will operate under long-term time charter agreements, strengthening earnings stability and supporting the group’s push for sustainable, disciplined growth.

The vessels will expand MISC’s dual-fuel fleet globally, giving the Group dual-fuel capability across all its tanker segments—Aframax, Shuttle Tankers, Suezmax and VLCC.

MISC said the orders reflect its continued investment in cleaner, more energy-efficient vessels and its commitment to supporting the maritime industry’s shift toward lower-carbon operations.

President and group CEO Zahid Osman said the milestone reinforces MISC’s commitment to advancing the energy transition and meeting its greenhouse gas reduction targets. He noted that the group’s fleet now stands at 106 vessels.

Zahid said that with the addition of the two LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers, MISC Group will have 21 newbuilds in its fleet renewal pipeline, scheduled to enter the fleet over the next two to three years.

“This represents one of the most extensive and forward-leaning renewal cycles in our history, reflecting a strategy that extends well beyond modernisation. It is a deliberate strategy to strengthen long-term cashflow resilience and rejuvenate our portfolio with newer and more energy-efficient vessels, ensuring sustained value creation for our shareholders

“Our investments in dual-fuel technologies position us at the forefront of innovation, ensuring we remain competitive while contributing impactfully to global decarbonisation efforts,” he said.
