BAT Malaysia to embark on workforce optimisation exercise in July

KUALA LUMPUR: British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Bhd (BAT) will implement a workforce optimisation exercise from July 1, 2026, as it looks at ramping up its operational efficiency.

The tobacco product manufacturer said the exercise will also align the workforce with future operating requirements and business direction.

"The company will ensure the workforce optimisation is conducted in compliance with applicable labour laws and regulations.

"Affected employees will receive their statutory and contractual entitlements, including retrenchment benefits, where applicable," it said in a filing with the stock exchange.

BAT said the initiative is not expected to impact its financial performance for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2026.

At the close of the early session, shares in BAT were up six sen to RM5.65 apiece after 217,100 shares done.
