Maybank facilitates RM15bil of financing in Johor

PETALING JAYA: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) says it is committed to facilitating more than RM15bil of financing in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Malaysia’s largest bank said the total comprises about RM10bil in committed financing and up to RM5.35bil in investment interests over the next three to 10 years via letters of intent (LoI) from clients.

The financing and investments cover a wide range of clients, ranging from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies to large multinational corporations.

The clients are involved in areas such as high-value manufacturing, the digital economy, food security, healthcare, and logistics.

“Total financing of approximately RM120mil to five Johor-based SMEs and mid-cap corporations has also been announced, with letters of offer extended to Cape EMS Bhd, Haily Construction Sdn Bhd, NES Packaging Sdn Bhd, MCH M&E Sdn Bhd, and TSH Manufacturing Solution Sdn Bhd.

“Maybank has facilitated client LoIs totalling up to RM5.35bil to the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda). This includes a RM3bil LoI from Equalbase, a Singapore-based developer of sustainable industrial real estate.

“Earlier announced LoIs of RM2.35bil were from Alpine Renewables and Edible Oils Pte Ltd, Centurion Corp Ltd, and Thomson Medical Group Ltd for projects over the next three to 10 years,” Maybank said in a statement.

In the same statement, the banking group announced that its Forest City Service Centre has been launched by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Maybank president and group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Khairussaleh Ramli.

Maybank said the centre aligns with the Forest City Special Financial Zone’s (FCSFZ) vision to be a regional financial hub, while supporting the JS-SEZ.

The service centre allows Maybank to facilitate client investment and drive growth across key sectors, including wealth management, semiconductors, electric vehicles, healthcare, and the halal economy, it added.

To date, Maybank has provided advisory services in the successful establishment of two single-family offices in the FCSFZ, for One KL Management Sdn Bhd, the first in Malaysia, and the other for Beach Capital Holdings Sdn Bhd, with 13 more in the pipeline.
