Ringgit’s quiet climb as dollar unwinds

THE ringgit has quietly made a comeback in 2025, gaining 5.5% against the US dollar year-to-date to reach 4.228. This steady climb reflects a combination of the global dollar unwind and Malaysia’s improving domestic fundamentals.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah this week said the local unit could strengthen to below 4.00 in 2026, a suggestion which analysts say isn’t far-fetched.
